Gonadorelin
Gonadorelin is another name for gonadotropin-releasing hormone. It is a synthetic decapeptide
prepared using solid phase peptide synthesis.GnRH is responsible for the release of follicle
stimulating hormone and leutinizing hormone from the anterior pitutitary.
GnRH is available as gonadorelin hydrochloride and gonadorelin diacetate tetrahydrate for
injectable use. Studies have described it being used via an infusion pump system to induce
ovulation in patients with hypothalamic hypogonadism.It is also used in veterinary medicine as a
treatment for cattle with cystic ovarian disease.
Gonadorelin is responsible for the release of follicle stimulating hormone and leutinizing hormone
from the anterior pitutitary.In the pituitary GnRH stimulates synthesis and release of FSH and LH,
a process that is controlled by the frequency and amplitude of GnRH pulses, as well as the
feedback of androgens and estrogens.The pulsatility of GnRH secretion has been seen in all
vertebrates, and it is necessary to ensure a correct reproductive function.Thus a single hormone,
GnRH, controls a complex process of follicular growth, ovulation, and corpus luteum maintenance
in the female, and spermatogenesis in the male.Its short half life requires infusion pumps for its
clinical use.
Application
1) Gonadorelin is used to test how well the hypothalamus and the pituitary glands are working. It
is also used to cause ovulation (release of an egg from the ovary) in women who do not have
regular ovulation and menstrual periods because the hypothalamus gland does not release
enough GnRH
2) Gonadorelin is becoming a gonadotrophin releasing hormone for athletes (especially strength

How does it work
Gonadorelin is a hormone that is produced naturally by the hypothalamus in the brain. It is also
known as gonadotrophin-releasing hormone or GnRH.
Gonadorelin stimulates the pituitary gland in the brain to release the sex hormones luteinising
hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). In women, FSH stimulates the production of
oestrogen and the development of eggs in the ovaries. LH stimulates the ovaries to release an
egg (ovulation). In men, LH stimulates the testicles to produce the hormone testosterone and FSH
stimulates the testicles to produce sperm.
Gonadorelin is given by injection to check whether the pituitary gland is producing LH and FSH in
the correct levels. This can help in the diagnosis of various hormonal disorders, including
infertility, delayed puberty and hypogonadism.
